In the early 1980s, in a small garage on a plot of family-owned Minnesota farmland, Knobelsdorff Electric was born. Back then, it was a single-electrician operation, serving local agricultural and light industrial facilities, but owners Juergen and Char von Knobelsdorff still understood the power of personal service. Their commitment to excellence and ability to deliver on their promises quickly caught the attention of customers.

As the reputation of the Knobelsdorff brand grew, so too did the business. Soon, when more equipment, vehicles and manpower were needed, the cramped backyard garage no longer suited the company’s growing capabilities. In 1990, the first true electrical shop was built.

Karl and Kim von Knobelsdorff now manage day-to-day operations from the company’s 40,000-square-foot facility, which includes a full Controls Engineering group and UL 508A panel shop. Today, Knobelsdorff Electric operates primarily in the heavy industry arena, offering a one-stop shop for commercial and industrial electrical services, and controls engineering to customers in agricultural, food processing, foundry, pipeline, mining and other industries.

While a licensed electrical contractor servicing the Minneapolis, St. Paul and greater five state area, the company has remained true to its roots, providing the local service customers need — any time of day, every day of the year. Knobelsdorff Electric stays on the leading edge by progressively adopting the latest techniques and utilizing a highly advanced safety regimen and the best-equipped tradesmen. We have the horsepower, and brainpower, to tackle even the most extreme project challenges.
